Building a better Wargrave together.

Between 2015 and 2025, Wargrave Big Local invested £1 million of National Lottery funding to make our community a better place to live.

The project has now come to a close but you can watch our story on film or read about the difference we made.

Greener

Our vision for a greener Wargrave seeks to encourage recycling and carbon footprint reduction initiatives, is pro-active in dealing with issues that affect residents such as dog fouling and litter, provides training for groups and individuals, and uses the arts and a community garden to bring people together.

What we achieved together

Every decision about how to spend the money was made by Wargrave residents, and we listened to what people needed. Our community is stronger because we worked together.

  • We supported our community during challenges like Covid-19 and the cost-of-living crisis.
  • We brought essential services into Wargrave so people didn’t have to travel to access support.
  • We awarded 64 grants worth £142,000 to support local ideas and community groups.
  • We organised coach trips, fun days, and groups and activities that brought people together and helped tackle loneliness. For example, the Men’s Group, Walking Groups and Sewing Bee.
  • We improved outdoor spaces, including Newton Community Centre’s garden, Red Brow Wood, and the cemetery memorial garden.
  • We have worked with Newton Community Centre to strengthen the organisation for the future.
